PERSONNEL POLICY
The Newhall Library Board shall hire a qualified Library Director with final approval by the City Council. There will be no discrimination because of race, creed or religious preference.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Director shall be certified by the State Library of Iowa or will be within two year timeframe
Maintain contact with community
Select, order and process materials
Prepare statistical reports as required by state
Attend board meetings
Attend professional meetings.
Prepare book selection policy
Check materials in and out including shelving materials checked in.
Assist patrons in finding what they need in a courteous and pleasant manner
Take and process interlibrary loan requests.
Answer reference questions including phoned-in requests. No personal information shall be released
Write letters and collect fines for overdue, damaged or lost materials
Weed materials as needed
Keep materials on shelves in order
And all other responsibilities commensurate with this position
Be on time and be well groomed and appropriately dressed for their job.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
Director:
Two month period
After six months director is assured of continuous employment as long as duties are performed.
VACATION POLICY:
1 week of 30 hours at end of first year of employment
2 weeks of 60 hours at end of third year of employment
SICK LEACE POLICY:
3 working days of sick leave each year. There is no accumulation sick leave.

PAY POLICY:
Paid monthly after second City Council meeting of the month.
Pay deductions – Social Security; IPERS; State withholding; Federal withholding
Jury duty – leave without pay.
Raises will be recommended by the library board and every effort will be made to match the cities percent increase.
LIBRARY HOURS:
Monday 2:00 – 7:00
Tuesday 1:00 – 6:00
Wednesday 9:00 – 12:00 and 1:00 – 6:00
Thursday 1:00 – 6:00
Friday 1:00 – 6:00
Saturday 9:00 – 11:00
All hours subject to change by board.
Inclement weather – Library to be closed with approval of board president or other board member.

TERMINATION OF SERVICES:
Resignation – written notice to board
Three week notice
Dismissal – For incompetence
Warning in writing
Two weeks to improve
If dismissal must follow a weeks notice is given.
